The news this week, in reengineering terms at least, was dominated by the release of a key report from the UK’s Climate Change Committee (CCC), which advised that – in order to meet net zero targets – half of British homes would need a heat pump by 2030, among other societal shifts. This drew more than 4,000 comments from readers of the BBC News website alone. But the CCC’s report also urged other interventions including greater uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) and a reduction of meat in people’s diets. Interestingly, the CCC added that there was “no role” for hydrogen as a fuel for domestic heating, or in road transportation, in the future.
